A lot have been spoken about bridal wear and trends. But does that mean grooms should not have a style statement?

A few years back the Indian groom had very few choices except a straight cut dark suit, a simple silk kurta or a brocade sherwani. But now, men too want to look sober and stylish; as good as their brides.  But very few designers had paid attention to men’s wear and even men are busy designing bridal wear. At the same time it is a truth that grooms need a good designer as the usual mix-and-match will only show them to disadvantage.

Sunil Mehra Groom CollectionFWD looks forward to designer Sunil Mehra, who has made a name in the men’s wear to explore what’s latest on Groom’s Trousseau

So, what are the trends in grooms wear for the season?

Grooms if dressing up in desi style at wedding reception, could go for muted kurtas and nehru waist coats with patialas or pyjamas. For heavier looks, open button achkans layered over silk kurtas and contrast patialas are a great look.  A fusion of banarasi brocades, bandhani, Ikats and velvets, embellished with glittering zari, gotapatti work, badla and traditional metallic patterns are also in vogue. Embroidered sherwanis too have got a brilliance. If it is a formal evening function, a black wear, or a tuxedo do well.

What is Concept Dressing?

Yes, concept dressing is very popular in North and I see it is popular in metros of South too. As most wedding receptions are now theme based, the bride-groom’s costumes will be designed in a way that it go with the theme. Some popular themes are Arabic, Radha-Krishna theme, Egyptian style, Vintage and so on. And to match that for example, if it is Radhakrishna theme its more about romance, so importance for colors and groom generally ask for a frock cut angrakhas.

What are the Fabrics and Embroiders ideal for groom’s trousseau?

Antique dabka work (not the shiny one) in gold and silver, intricate hand embroideries in pureresham, precious stone work and hand painted effects….there are many. Just like brides do, mix and match of fabrics and embroideries also will be fine. For a plain effect, a subtle silk brocades, rich velvets all will do.

And, Khadi has been the inspiration for many finishes. Synonymous with patriotism and ethnicity, we see it often on Indian events in conjunction with more modern trends. Khasi is especially good if the wedding takes place in summer as it is advised to avoid black suit or dark tones.

Can you tell us more about mix n match style?

Bandhgala jackets can be teamed up with ombre dhotis and salwars. Angrakha or frock-tunic silhouette goes well with palazzo pants.

I also recommend a long floor length robe teamed with a different concepts or even headgears. For example, what we did for one of our customer was a robe teamed with a Arabic style headgear embellished with a stoned broach.

What’s more important while choosing groom’s clothes?

Although the bride’s dress is the one that captures most of the attention on her wedding day, the groom’s wear is as important as the bride’s, as they have to choose attires that complement each other. Also, just as brides do, grooms too have to ensure that their accessories go well with their dress.

Please throw some light on groom accessories

Cufflinks: – The foremost and the most obvious, wedding suit accessory include cufflinks. These minute superfluities can help you make a big fashion statement and so it is indispensable to have them as part of your accessories and thus gratify your look

Shoes: – Wedding shoes is yet another important wedding accessory for men. Though there is variety of shoes available in market with different colors, textures and patterns; always go for the ones that will give you comfort and complement your outfit.

Vests: – Also called as waistcoats, this is yet other accessory to personalize your suit. Waistcoats actually help adding to the custom and grandeur of the carnival and well-chosen waistcoat with unique pattern and style can complement the outfit fantastically.

If it is a Christian function or a function with a Western influence, formal shoes, gold/diamond cufflinks, tie pins and brooches enhances the appeal of the outfit. Add a dazzling watch to the outfit and you are ready with the perfect groom look for your wedding.

What do you think about the future of Wedding Trends

The future of weddings tends to be more elaborate. From the clothing and jewelry to the venue’s décor, we will see an upsurge with more attention to detail. Theme weddings have been the toast for quite some time but I believe an exciting bit could be added by mixing and matching absolutely different elements from different themes.

Published

on

In his latest collection, Karan Torani draws inspiration from Radha Rani’s timeless and youthful beauty as depicted in ancient scriptures. Revered by devotees, particularly in Braj, Radha Rani is described in the *Brahma Vaivarta Purana* as a goddess with a molten gold complexion, adorned with garlands of precious gems and flowers, often dressed in traditional sarees or ghagra cholis at her temples.

Tamannaah Bhatia, renowned for her style and elegance, recently embodied the essence of ‘Radha’ in Karan Torani’s latest collection, *Leela: The Illusion of Love*. This collection beautifully celebrates Goddess Radha Rani and her timeless love for Krishna. Tamannaah’s portrayal of ‘Radha’ is truly mesmerizing, transporting you to the enchanting lanes of Vrindavan, where you’ll find yourself captivated by the divine love story of Radha and Krishna.

One of her standout looks features a stunning pastel blue organza lehenga paired with a pink-toned dupatta. She accessorized with a delicate choker necklace and a sheesh patti, while soft makeup and a long braided hairstyle completed the ensemble.
