It’s 2018 and women are still not well appreciated when it comes to enjoying football or talking about football with any sort of authority. The 2018 FIFA World Cup witnessed a lot of instances objectifying women present to watch the matches and at other times labeling women as fake fans of football.

Earlier this week when Getty images, the world’s largest supplier of stock images published a photo gallery with the title, ” the hottest fans at the World Cup”. This gallery contained over sexualized and demeaning pictures of young women at the football match. After facing the heat from social media, Getty images soon deleted the photos and came up with an apology. The company said in the statement:

“We regret the error and have removed the piece. There are many interesting stories to tell about the World Cup and we acknowledge this was not one of them,”

They also added that the post did not meet their editorial standards.

Another shocking incident was witnessed, where a reporter, Julia Guimaraes was reporting live from Russia when a passerby approached her and tried to kiss her. She dodged the kiss and shouted at him. She said to the man to never behave like this to any women. And this is not the first case, similar incidents were reported in previous World Cups also.

There are a string of incidents reported where women are not encouraged to be a part of the World Cup. A similar comment was made by the former football player, Jason Cundy. He said that women’s voice are too high pitched for football punditry. This was after BBC journalist Vicki Sparks became the first women to commentate live on a World Cup match in the UK.

Now a great initiative and a campaign has been launched by a photography project to replace the over sexualized images of women at football that appear at the top slot of google search with the pictures of genuine female fans at the matches. They encourage people to share new articles with  images of diverse group of female fans with the hashtag #WeAreFemaleFans to get these images to the top of the search engine.

Published

Zeenat Aman is very vocal with her Instagram followers. In her most recent post, the veteran actor, whose Instagram presence has managed to catch everyone’s attention, gave her take on fashion. The celebrity wrote in great depth about enjoying fashion and not limiting its associations to words like “sexy” and “glamour.” On her profile, one can see photos from her more recent adventures mixed in with nostalgic photos, all of which are accompanied by moving writing from the icon herself.

Aman has been called a retro fashion icon, but her Instagram shows that she hasn’t lost any of her style chops over the years. Aman’s style stands out amid a sea of fashion posts that are overflowing with trends but lacking in personality. The actor’s fashion choices and her tone of voice, which is hard to come by on social media, are a welcome contrast.

Taking to her Instagram to talk about her understanding of the concept of fashion, Zeenat shared a couple of pictures standing in an oversized white shirt and black pants from the new shoot. The actor said she is tired of hearing the word ‘bombshell’ and ‘diva’ attached to fashion all the time, and wants to pull the ‘focus on fun.’ Positive comments on the actor’s post were left by many, who praised her for defying stereotypes and serving as an inspiration.

Aman posed for the camera wearing a Payal Khandwala costume to celebrate her 50th Instagram post. Aman, who is never afraid to make a statement, defied the ageist fashion convention that “women of a certain age” should only wear neutral colour schemes. Aman wore a handwoven silk jacket in a lush green tone over her immaculate white shirt, giving the look the ideal pop of colour. The actor wore classic accessories including tiny golden earrings, black eyeglasses, and a brush of brick-red lipstick.
