In the recent times, while the segment of daily fashion wear has occupied a major part of the society, footwear options have also cropped up to meet the demands for several outfits. Be it for students or professionals, a simple guide to understand the correct pairing of shoes with our clothes is more than helpful. Bhavya Chawla, Chief Stylist at Voonik shares her expert advice on selecting the right footwear to amplify your look.
Casual wear
Casual women’s shoes are the type that you wear on a day to day basis. For women, flats are a must-have for casual wear. They are comfortable and very versatile. They are of different colours and patterns. They can be worn with Jeans, Capri pants, Maxi dresses or any other apparel. Comfier heels that are not too high or wedges might fall into this category due to them being far easier and more comfortable to wear.
As for men, a white pair of sneakers is an essential wardrobe item. It can be perfectly paired with most jeans. High top trainers/sneakers are also a huge trend this season. Suede or a coloured loafer will also go very well with your casual attire.
Cocktail party
Every woman should have absolutely drop-dead gorgeous evening shoes. You can choose a silver high-heel sandal, elegant black evening shoes or a multitude of other styles. Peeptoes should be preferably three to four inches. This shoe is for dressing up either for going on a date, dinner, or even the company party. The open toe part of the shoe makes you look more stylish. You can pair these shoes with dresses of all kinds, skirts, and high waist trousers/pants.
Loafers are known to be the ‘laid back’ version of a dress shoe and are best for a cocktail party for men. These shoes are versatile and comfortable. You can wear a loafer with a tuxedo if you choose, or with a pair of khaki pants and a T-shirt. They are the epitome of easy to wear shoes. You can put them on and instantly transform your entire outfit from casual to semi-formal to formal.
Office wear
The classic black pumps are apt for officewear. This can be worn to the office and to any other occasion. The shoe should have two to three inches long heels depending on one’s preference. One cannot wear black with every colour always, though. There is always a need for other neutral colours like brown, taupe, or beige. However, one can choose navy if you have clothing in those colour schemes. This shoe should be versatile enough to wear with trousers, slacks or even a dress. If you are not a heel person then Ballerinas in solid colours are also a good option.
For guys, Oxford shoes, Brogues will make your outfit seem more formal. Combine a pair of slim navy jeans (cuffed at the bottom), with your favourite pair of shoes. For a less formal tone, wear a pair of brown shoes. Black formal shoes will seem more formal and may appear strange when combined with jeans, match them up with trousers or chinos with a well-fitted shirt. Don’t forget to wear the appropriate pair of socks!
Beach wear
When going on a beach, choosing the right pair of footwear is the vital part. You want your feet to feel comfortable and cool and it should match with your summer dress, shorts or bikini. Flip flops are one of the most appropriate choices but there are different styles which you can choose from. Havaianas, Crocs, Fit Flops, would be a good choice. You can try out metallic flats as well.
For men, the easiest choice is flip flops – they are comfy, easily available, and very effective for their intended purpose. Pair them up with shorts, T-shirts, or Tanks. Throw on an unbuttoned short sleeve shirt over the top when you walk off the sand for a more stylish look.
Sporty look
For women, sneakers are a huge trend these days. Heeled, coloured, shimmery, or printed; you can pair them up with denim joggers, track pants, sweats or t-shirts to look sporty and cool! Boots will also give you a sporty look if you pair them up with biker jackets and denim.
For men, the correct athletic shoe can provide you with just the right amount of comfort and style for any sporty look. You can pair them up with joggers, jeans, polos, long tees, and sweats. These days, bold colours and colourful soles are extremely in fashion. So, don’t be afraid to try out! And of course, there is a wide range of sneakers available as well.

The Year of Statement Hat
When Anya Taylor-Joy stepped out at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in Jacquemus’ Le Chapeau Bomba, a delightfully oversized raffia hat it was clear that this accessory had become the season’s ultimate statement piece. The fall 2024 runways echoed this sentiment, with Chanel and Prada showcasing hats as the new must-have. Think of Sarah Jessica Parker’s oversized Maryam Keyhani creation, worn on the set of And Just Like That… earlier this year, or Margaret Qualley donning Chanel’s nautical style at Cannes. These hats are for the main characters who command attention, making a bold statement long before you arrive.
Altuzarra’s fall 2024 collection featured boxy headpieces on some models, each designed to evoke a specific character. “It was about finding joy in wearing a complete look, fully embodying a character,” explains designer Joseph Altuzarra. Interestingly, this was the label’s first foray into hats beyond casual knit and woven styles. ‘We didn’t plan to sell them,’ Altuzarra admits, ‘but they ended up being a hit.
Similarly, milliner Gigi Burris O’Hara has experienced a surge in demand. Although she launched her brand, Gigi Burris, in 2012, she only opened her first store late last year. “During leaner times, when people become more selective with their spending, they seek joy in thoughtful purchases,” she explains.
After years of embracing a more casual style, we’re now gravitating toward all things expressive. Maximalist content creator Sara Camposarcone has been embracing pieces from small brands like Potion23, renowned for its whimsical, witchy hats. “I feel like I can now wear bolder headpieces that complement my extravagant outfits,” Camposarcone shares. “Since discovering vintage fashion, I’ve developed a passion for finding great vintage pillbox hats or a 1920s fascinator.”

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s Traditional Ladakh’s Heritage Attire
As Anant Ambani’s pre-wedding festivities come to an end, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja chose to dress in Ladakh traditional garb. The event featured a number of topics, with India’s rich past being the focus yesterday night. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja emphasized this by dressing in Namza Couture, which was established in 2016 by Padma Yangchan and Jigmet Disket and is renowned for its commitment to Ladakhi fabrics.
The Mogos, a gown-like item with a shimmering zari border and pistachio green brocade, was part of Sonam’s ensemble. She wore a rani-pink shawl called a “Bok,” which is usually made from silk or goat skin and is worn to keep warm by the locals. This outfit was made of silk by Benaras artisans, and it had intricate phoenix embroidery, which stands for knowledge and vigor. It also had a crane image, which stands for prosperity and peace.
Her jewelry selections also honored custom; she wore a neckpiece set with diamonds and an emerald stone in the center. She accessorized this with striking statement rings and copper handcuffs, all tastefully matched with pearl earrings. She chose metallic juttis to complete her look, and she carried a bespoke purse by re-ceremonial.
