Discovering Happiness through ‘’The Happiness Project’’-Dhanya Varma

Published

on

Dhanya Varma’s story of entering into the world of media began as an assistant producer at Star network with the show Kaun Banega Crorepati. She says that she loves challenging herself in new ways and loves learning different things in life. It is that excitement of trying out something new that led her to become a Hindi news reader on Star News. Thus began the journey of this shy person from behind the camera to the front and paved her way to the anchoring world.

Later on, she came to be known as the host of ‘’Talking Point with Dhanya Varma’’ a talk show, where 6 prominent guests are invited and a topic is discussed among them.  To do this one need thorough knowledge about the subject and should have a proper idea on how to manage the panelists from different walks of life. It was a challenge and an opportunity to learn more about the socio-political situation in Kerala for Dhanya. She took this up and the show aired successfully for 2 years on the Rose Bowl channel.

Later on, Sumesh Lal, the creative director of Kappa TV offered her “The Happiness Project”.  Dhanya was keen on doing a talk show and the happiness project happened at the right time. ‘’ We wanted to bring forward to the audience something that would empower and bring a positive impact on people. We wanted to put out content that is motivating and make a difference in their lives through this show’’ Dhanya said. She believes in the idea of service through her work. Her curiosity to know about people and their life experiences, made the Happiness project a huge hit. The show does not only invite guests from the film industry, but also personalities from different professional backgrounds. The show never feels like an interview. It is more like 2 people enjoying themselves, sharing their life experiences and chatting happily. ‘’The Happiness Mashup’’, a mashup of all the guests of the show, on YouTube, answering her famous question ‘’What do you think of happiness?’’, is a very beautiful video that everyone must watch.

When asked on which episode is special to her, Dhanya replies- ‘’There were many episodes in the happiness project that made me laugh so much at the same time episodes that made me tear up. One such was the interview with Rajalakshmy Abhiram. The story of her journey to the world of music and how she became a singer was very touching. Similarly, the episode with Maitreya Maitreyan got me thinking intellectually. So, I can’t choose one episode that is special to me. Every guest has their own experiences and there are different things to learn from it.’’

Dhanya Varma is not only an anchor, but also an actor. Her first debutante movie was ‘’Humans of Someone’’ directed by her long-time friend Sumesh Lal. The movie premiered at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in 2018. She then got a role in the movie ‘’Pathinettam Padi’’, as a journalist opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran. ‘’Since interviewing guests is what my actual job is, the role did not seem to be very different from what I do on television’’-she says. Her recent movie was ‘’Sara’s’’, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph. She played the role of Dr. Sandhya Philip. “This was a real experience of acting as I had to play a character different from who I am, “she says. The movie was released on Amazon Prime and had a great response for the story line.

Dhanya is now a vlogger as well. What started off as covid-19 awareness videos are now full-fledged YouTube channels. She explores ideas that could help with personal growth and self-development. She also loves reading and chooses to review books on this channel. She believes that it must be one’s endeavor to give back to society via the work that one does and that thought reflects in her English YouTube channel Dhanya Varma Official.

‘’Happiness is not about running behind certain things in your life. Both heaven and hell; it exists in your mind. You can make your mind a living hell or a happy place. Being self-aware, being mindful of what you do, understanding that happiness can come from very small things and being present to enjoy it, is bigger than anything else in this world.  A lot of us are preoccupied with the thought of what is going to happen in the future, rather than enjoying the present. Hence, we miss the little joys that happen in our life. So being in the present and enjoying my life is what is happiness to me’’- She ends the interview on a positive note.

5 Sustainable Interior Design Trends to Embrace in 2024

Published

on

As the world becomes increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability, it’s no surprise that eco-friendly practices are making their way into the realm of interior design. In 2024, we can expect to see a surge in sustainable interior design trends that not only enhance the beauty of our living spaces but also minimise our environmental footprint. From repurposed materials to energy-efficient solutions, here are five sustainable interior design trends to embrace this year.

Upcycled Furniture:

One of the most prominent sustainable interior design trends of 2024 is the use of upcycled furniture. Instead of buying new pieces, consider giving old furniture a new lease on life by refurbishing or repurposing them. From reclaimed wood tables to refurbished chairs, upcycled furniture adds character and charm to your space while reducing waste and conserving resources.

Biophilic Design:

Biophilic design, which emphasizes a connection to nature, continues to gain popularity in 2024. Integrating natural elements such as plants, natural light, and organic materials into your interior design not only enhances aesthetics but also promotes well-being and sustainability. Consider incorporating living walls, indoor gardens, and sustainable wood finishes to bring the outdoors inside and create a healthier living environment.

Energy-Efficient Lighting:

With a growing focus on energy conservation, energy-efficient lighting solutions are becoming a staple in sustainable interior design. LED lights, in particular, consume significantly less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and last much longer, reducing both energy consumption and maintenance costs. Additionally, consider incorporating natural light sources such as skylights and large windows to maximize daylight and minimize the need for artificial lighting during the day.

Sustainable Textiles:

When it comes to upholstery and soft furnishings, opting for sustainable textiles is key to reducing environmental impact. Look for fabrics made from organic or recycled materials, such as organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, or recycled polyester. These materials not only reduce the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides but also minimize waste and support eco-friendly production practices. Additionally, consider investing in durable, high-quality textiles that stand the test of time, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

Smart Home Technology:

In 2024, smart home technology continues to evolve, offering innovative solutions for sustainable living. From smart thermostats that optimize energy usage to home automation systems that control lighting and appliances, these technologies can help reduce energy consumption and increase efficiency in your home. Additionally, smart home devices such as occupancy sensors and smart meters provide valuable insights into your energy usage, empowering you to make informed decisions about resource management and conservation.

As we strive to create more sustainable living environments, embracing these five interior design trends can help reduce our environmental impact while creating beautiful and functional spaces. Whether you’re upcycling old furniture, incorporating natural elements, or investing in energy-efficient technologies, every sustainable choice contributes to a greener future for generations to come. So let’s embrace these trends and make sustainability a cornerstone of our interior design practices in 2024 and beyond.
