Day 1 On The Runways Of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017
[Ka][Sha] By Karishma Shahani Khan
Karishma Shahani Khan’s inspiration was a vintage image of sari-clad lady in a trench coat; which set Karishma’s creativity in top gear. The collection was a line of contrasting garments that merged effortlessly on the ramp. The shade card was multi-hued starting with off-white, sunshine yellow, dark red and then moved onto bright navy with large doses of ice mint and emerald.
ANTAR-AGNI BY UJJAWAL DUBEY
The ‘Antar-Agni’ label by Ujjawal Dubey has acquired quite a loyal following amongst the trend setters of both sexes. He has always ensured that his label ‘Antar Agni’ renowned for stylish, asymmetric, constructions pushed the creative envelope to its brink. For Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 his collection for men and women called “Free and Nothing” stayed far away from last season’s all-black avatar. Instead, white was the star colour of the collection as it created fresh cheer for the garments. To balance this pristine hue, there was soothing sand and dark navy blue to break the white monopoly.
REBOOT BY ANUJ BHUTANI
Known for his innovative yet very simple and sophisticated designs, Anuj Bhutani for his ‘Reboot’ label took an adventurous, sustainable design route this time around. Anuj’s creativity moved into the sustainable fashion territory for men and women, but he kept true to the theme, as he used an assortment of jute, khadi and cotton in earthy tones.
QUO BY ISHITA MANGAL
Aimed at the multi-tasking, jet setting, high powered, 21st century, woman, “The Faces” collection by Ishita Mangal for her ‘QUO’ label at the show was a many dimensional offering. The high fashion line of apparel in a combination of sporty street wear with large doses of bling was a veritable smorgasbord of style and substance. Combining fashionable cotton with felt and leather, the ensembles were in subdued pastels and rich hues to suit the mood of the season. Black, white, navy, peachy pink and powder blue along with deep brown was an eye-catching palette.
EKA BY RINA SINGH
Soft watercolour hues merged with block prints, floral chintzy versions with distressed finishes that ended with lace inlays and pretty, cross stitch embroidery. That, in a nutshell was Rina Singh’s mélange of summer wear under her label EKA.The soft shades of sun faded hues, like nutmeg, white, pastel blue, yellow and poppy pink for the laundered table cloth checks and stripes were the perfect base for summer dresses. Some of the silhouettes in boxy shapes were at times teamed with fancy, lacy, sleep-in culottes, cropped linen pants or striped midis.
LAMBORGINI PRESENTS KUNAL RAWAL
Men’s wear for Summer 2017 has moved into a new dimension, as was evident at The Lamborghini presentation of Kunal Rawal’s Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 show with his collection “Race of Separates”. Unveiling the much awaited Lamborghini Huracan Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder, Lamborghini’s timeless automobile elegance was a perfect match for Kunal Rawal’s men’s wear fashion story. It was a story of separates, which Kunal offered to the stylish male buyer who can create numerous permutations and combinations from Indian to western, casuals, formal party wear or even looks for those swinging Sangeet nights. Colours were cheerful with bright beige, ivory, and red, washed yellow along with black and deep dark evening tones.
DEV R NIL
The beautiful Kashmir Valley and the violence that has engulfed the region, inspired Dev r Nil’s collection, “The Valley of Missing Flowers” presentation at the first day of the fashion week created an impactful mood. The duo enchanted the audience with seven different looks that ranged from ikat and stripes to meadows, simple stripes, ikat feathers and metallics that came together making for an exceptional but eclectic combination. The colour card started with ecru then moved to sombre grey, muted green and then dusty blue. Sudden bursts of red, lime green and midnight blue appeared periodically to add drama and excitement to the garments.
AM.IT By AMIT AGGARWAL x LAKME SALON SEAMLESS
Keeping in mind the eco-conscious, environmentally friendly, global trend, Lakmé Salon experts along with top fashion Guru Amit Aggarwal redefined the way hair, makeup and fashion will be for the coming months. The plait came in a new avatar entwined with metallic wires. To match the look, makeup was a ‘game changer’ for the steamy months; as metallic inspirations from the hairstyles were balanced with impressive quirky brow-game.
Using waste materials like bindi sheets, drinking straws, nipped stockings, poly bags with Gamchas, sequin waste, khadi and block printed fabrics, AM.IT, the diffusion label from Amit Aggarwal has displayed in the past amazing garments that have boggled the mind.
The AM.IT Resort 2017 collection called “Seamless” took birth when Amit realised how worn out saris were recycled. Ripped Patola saris were restored with bonding, pleating and weaving to give them a different identity. Using the colours of the traditional Patola like wine, rust, teal, olive, khadi, mustard and ink blue, Amit added metallic tones for drama.
