Kochi, 9th March, 2016: Celebrity Cricket Club – C3, a club specially formed by actors, directors and singers from Malayalam movie industry with an emphasis of charity and comradeship announced their charity initiatives of the year. Mr. Kunchako Boban, actor and Chairman, Celebrity Cricket Club – C3 handed over a cheque worth Rs. 4.5 lakhs to Ambalathara Kunhikannan, General Secretary, Endosulfan Virudhasamithi, Kasargod as part of their charity initiatives. The donation of C3 will be used for Snehaveed, an initiative of Endosulfan Virudhasamithi to rehabilitate 25 endosulfan victims in the affected area. Earlier, the club had handed over an amount of Rs. one lakh to the family of Oduvil Unnikrishnan, late Malayalam actor.

Actor Kunchako Boban suggested the idea to provide financial aid to the Endosulfan victims of Kasargode District as a part of this year’s charity initiative as the actor had a personal experience with the ground scenario in the affected area during the shoot of his movie directed by National Award winning director Dr. Biju. The movie portrayed the struggles of the Endosulfan victims, had won accolades at many film festivals and received a positive response from public as well as critics.

“Through this innovative platform called Celebrity Cricket Club, we are selling our brand value as celebrities for noble causes. We are open to any organization which is able to pay us to conduct a match or perform a stage show and the major profit the club is getting will be going for charity and the rest is utilized for the infrastructure development of the club” said Mr. Kunchako Boban, Chairman, Celebrity Cricket Club. We started playing cricket casually, but soon we realized that we can contribute our energy and star value for humanitarian purpose. Passion for cricket is what binds us together. But the addition of social commitment into sports made our business more serious. The result was far bigger than we imagined“, he added.

“For any genuine cause, we would be happy to support morally and financially and associate with them. We will try to support them within our limited capacity”, Vijay Yesudas said. He added that the fund raised through the activities is utilized for the development of supporting infrastructure of the club considering the future growth of the club.

“The club has been looking forward for further commitments in order to sustain the momentum we have. So far, we are on plans to tie up with Australian Cricket Board and South African Cricket Board. As a club blessed with a number of musicians, we are also planning to launch our own music band called Band C3. Currently we are in talks regarding two matches in US and a few matches in Australia”, he added.

“A lot of people confuse C3 with Celebrity Cricket League. Many of our team members are playing for Kerala Strikers team of CCL or elsewhere since they are free to do so. C3 does not compete with CCL or any other league in the same format as C3 is a specially designed platform to sell the star value of celebrities exclusively for charity and development of our club infrastructure, unlike normal Cricket leagues. Rather than being just a Cricket club, C3 acts as a group of artists willing to perform with their talent in order to ultimately benefit the needy morally and financially” said Mr. Vijay Yesudas, Secretary, Celebrity Cricket Club.

Started in 2008, the club has played numerous matches with a number of clubs in and out the country including the match played against the movie directors’ team in Sharjah Stadium, Dubai in 2014. It was in 2014, C3 registered as a Charity club. In 2015 May, the club tied-up with English Cricket Board and had an opportunity to use Lord’s Cricket Ground for the practice sessions prior to the match with a British club. Though there were no big commitments in between, the club has been continuing the practice sessions and friendly matches, he added.
