So to get you prepped for all that marital madness that’s about to hit us right about now, here are a few of our favourite wedding-themed movies in various languages. From classics that we never get tired of watching to new age regional cinema that has won many hearts, here’s a list to keep you entertained and also arm you with the right kind of knowledge that you’d need to help that friend, sibling or family member who is about to get hitched. What are you waiting for? Grab your popcorn, your blanket, your tiara, and bouquet and lets Netflix and chill. (in the literal sense! lol)

My Best Friend’s Wedding

Why we love this movie: It’s hard to believe it’s been two decades since Julianne chased Michael who was chasing Kimmy. Since we learned that crème brûlée could never be Jell-O. Since we learned what was lower than pond scum. Our all time favourite!

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Why we love this movie: We’ve been swooning over this perfect union of two cultures since we were teens. Also John Corbett stole our hearts thanks to his romantic portrayal as Ian Miller a.k.a the man of our dreams.

Father of the bride

Why we love this movie: We’ve literally watched this one a couple dozen times and will still never get tired of it. Steve Martin (George Banks) and Diane Keaton (Nina Banks) play the role of the most adorable (and funny) parents who plan an amazing wedding for their daughter. Also, we want Frank to plan our wedding!

Monsoon Wedding

Why we love this movie: A charming family drama about a very chaotic Indian wedding. We love Naseeruddin Shah and Lillete Dubey’s onscreen chemistry and portrayal as the ideal parents.

Bangalore Days

Why we love this movie: Three different love stories weaved into a movie where friendship and relationships are the main theme. We love how Divya (Nazriya Nazim) healed the wounds and won the heart of her husband Das (Fahadh Faasil) after his tragic experience. Very touching indeed.

Kalyanaraman

Why we love this movie: One of our all time favourites! Dileep’s acting skill and the comedic relief provided by Innocent, Cochin Haneefa and Salim Kumar that had us ROFL-ing through the entire movie. Who can ever forget the ‘Music with Body Muscles’ scene.

Two States

Why we love this movie: The trials and tribulations that Krish and Ananya go through to take their love story to the next level. Any Indian guy/girl could relate to the drama of having a partner from a different cultural background. But love shall always prevail, kids!

Tanu weds Manu

What we love about the movie: Madhavan, Madhavan, oh and did I mention, Madhavan? Maddy’s amazing looks apart, this movie had us ‘LOL’ing and Kangana won our hearts too. We’ve love how they’ve portrayed the idea of ‘Opposites Attract’. Also, we’d marry Maddy in a heartbeat. Just saying.

Kalyana Samayal Sadham

Why we love this movie: One of the best takes we’ve seen on arranged marriage and the love that follows. The movie deals with real life issues portrayed in the most realistic manner, not to mention a full on look into everything that a Tambrahm wedding entails. Girls, time to take out those notebooks.

Padayappa

Why we love this movie: This movie has everything that Tamil movies are famous for. A love story, drama, comedy, a dash of sadness – all in all a perfect mix – like sambar. This is one our ‘Must Watch Pannungo’ list. Also, Rajni. Enough said.

on

Artistic works can occasionally achieve the ideal balance between the universal and the particular. Art has the power to unite us, despite the fact that our paths have been very different. There are songs whose words perfectly capture what you’re feeling. Alternatively, some movie stories seem to be crafted directly from your experience. Bollywood cinema has long been celebrated for its colourful storytelling, vibrant characters, and memorable performances. Over the years, we’ve seen a shift towards more nuanced and relatable portrayals of women on the silver screen. These characters not only resonate with audiences but also reflect the diverse experiences and aspirations of modern women. Here are seven feminine characters from Bollywood films who could be relatable to viewers:

Kaira from ‘Dear Zindagi‘

Potraied by Alia Bhatt, Kaira’s sleeplessness was caused by more serious problems that need counselling to resolve. I hope that more people could and would take that action. Her state of mental disarray was somewhat recognizable.

Piku from ‘Piku‘

Deepika Padukone portrays Piku, a strong-willed and independent woman who juggles her career, family responsibilities, and personal life with grace and humor. As she navigates the complexities of caring for her aging father, played by Amitabh Bachchan, Piku’s authenticity and resilience make her a relatable and inspiring character for many.

Rani from ‘Queen’

In this empowering tale of self-discovery, Kangana Ranaut shines as Rani, a young woman who embarks on a solo honeymoon trip to Europe after being jilted at the altar.
