The LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex) community in the India are still struggling to enter the mainstream and be accepted with equal grace in all realms of the social structure. But in Kerala its a different picture, the state has been persistently coming up with path breaking ideas and policies to accommodate the people in LGBTQI community.
Kerala has been the the pioneer of change when it comes to paving the way for equal rights and opportunities for India’s transgender community. From allocating special scholarships for transgender individuals, organising India’s first transgender sports meet, hosting transgender beauty peagents, providing reservation for transgender students for higher studies and drafted a special state policy for transgenders (The policy covers all the categories of transgenders, including female to male, male to female and intersex people), Social justice department recently launched a self-employment scheme for transgenders, while Kochi Metro has also employed TG community members in various roles; Kerala has always been a great inspiration to other states in India when it comes to acceptance, inclusivity and supporting a community that has been voiceless for far too long.

The Chief minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan took this further and decided to grant Rs 2 lakhs to transgenders for Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS), the second Indian state to do so after neighbouring Tamil Nadu. Kerala has assigned three hospitals for gender reassignment surgery and said it would also pay for people to have the procedure outside the state and reimburse those who had already done.
The Government of Kerala will grant up to ₹2 lakhs to transgenders for sex reassignment surgery. It will be implemented through the Social Justice Dept. The initiative follows many of the steps that the Kerala Government has taken to improve the lives of transgenders. pic.twitter.com/8rojlrrPZ6

He also said the same on his Facebook page..
Kerala is undoubtedly the most progressive state in our country. Since 2015 the government has only been going forward and helping the transgender community. LGBTQI campaigners urged India’s state governments to “learn a lesson” from Kerala after this monumental decision taken by the State government.

Are the contemporary women still the same that the poets have marvelled and the artists have painted? Women have travelled miles and rewritten the conventional expectations of beauty as well as personality. To add on to that list, transgender models are creating history in the world of beauty by breaking all the stereotypes. They are slowly conquering the fashion industry with looks to kill rephrasing the epitome of beauty.
Even though India has a long way to go in uplifting the status of transgenders in society, few innovations are evident. In recent times India has been witnessing quite a good number of attempts to revitalize the transgenders to the mainstream society. Indians are slowly accepting transgenders in various areas. The fashion industry is also making efforts to empower and improve the status of transgenders.
