Mayaanadhi which was released during Christmas time last year, outperformed the expectations, won the hearts of the audiences everywhere, and rose to success. The movie is now all geared up to be remade in Hindi.
The big announcement was made during the audio launch of Mohanlal’s upcoming movie Neerali. The event was attended by actor Tovino Thomas, Aashiq Abu and many more famous faces from Mollywood. The Bollywood remake of Mayaanadhi will be bankrolled by actor-director-producer Sachin Pilgaonkar along with Santosh Kuruvilla and Aashiq Abu. The rest of the crew is yet to be finalised.

Mayanaadhi, a movie which was perceived to be yet “another love story” upon its initial look and trailer, went much beyond the stereotypical romantic film. The film chose a unique story telling technique, alternating between genres (romance and thriller) and timelines (past, present and future), which in turn produced a mystical effect to the whole movie as suggested in the title. The movie with the protagonist on the run intensified love, passion and everything in between.
Mayaanadhi is a fine example of the brilliant craftsmanship by Aashiq Abu. His prudent direction and strong performances by the lead actors are the two main reasons, why the characters Maathan and Appu and the story itself stayed with the audiences for longer time.
The Hindi remake of the movie will be directed by Joe Rajan of the Love You Soniyo fame. And now we will have to wait and see whether the director and the remake will be able to recreate the same magic on the screen once again.
While the lead actors is yet to be finalized, all we can do is keep guessing who will be playing the lead characters of Maathan and Appu.

Mohanlal and Nadia Moidu pairing on screen after three decades has already got the fans excited for the release of Ajoy Varma’s debut Malayalam film Neerali. But this is not the only specialty of the film. The movie’s music has been handled by the man with swift fingers on keys, Stephan Devassy. The film also includes a duet sung by the legendary actor himself with the young nightingale of India Shreya Ghoshal. The audio launch of the film was held on Monday at Crowne Plaza, Kochi.
Neerali is a dramatic comedy thriller produced by Santosh T Kurivila under the banner of Moonshot Entertainments. The film also happens to be the 333rd film of the legendary actor Mohanlal. The cast of the film also includes Parvathy Nair, Megha Mathew, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Dileesh Pothen and many other talented artistes. Mohanlal plays the character Sunny George in the film which is scheduled to hit the silver screen on July 14, 2018.
The audio launch function of Neerali commenced by the screening of the film teaser. The evening was graced with the presence of various celebrities in the industry. Special invitees of the evening were renowned Marathi actor and filmmaker Sachin Pilgaonkar and famous Bollywood film critic Taran Adarsh.
The film has a total of four songs composed by Stephan. “Some parts of a song in the film have been recorded at Poland,” said Stephan. Representatives of the cast and crew of Neerali and Mayanadhi together launched the audio of Neerali.
Mohanlal won the audiences’ hearts with a live performance of the song Azhake Azhake from Neerali along with Stephan on the piano. MG Sreekumar and Vijay Yesudas also performed at the event. Sachin, Nadia, Parvathy, and Suraj addressed the gathering. Famous mentalist Nipin Niravath amused the gathering with his skills and tricks and the humorous collaboration with Suraj added colour to his act.
The celebration of the successful 125 days screening of Aashiq Abu’s film Mayanadhi was marked with cake cutting. Aashiq, Tovino Thomas, Soubin Shahir along with various other crew members of Mayanadhi cut the cake with Mohanlal to celebrate the achievement. Mohanlal spoke highly of Tovino‘s performance in Mayanadhi. It was also announced that Mayanadhi is soon going to be remade in Hindi.

Elanthoor, a small village in Pathanamthitta, Kerala is where Mohanlal was born. But he grew up in Thiruvananthapuram and earned a degree in commerce from Mahatma Gandhi University. Keralites saw Mohanlal for the first time on the screen through the directorial debut of Fazil in Manjil Virinja Pookkal (1980). Even though he was cast in the lead antagonist role, the young boy succeeded in obtaining a place in audience’s heart. It has been a legendary run for this veteran actor since then.
Not only from fans, wishes are pouring in from the members of the film fraternity, including legends such as Mammootty and many young stars as well. Mohanlal is always known as the coolest guy, whatever the situation. The dedication of Mohanlal towards cinema has always been praised. He is also one of the few high profile Malayali actors who are connected to his fans as well. The fabulous artiste is a recipient of five National Awards, several State and Filmfare awards, and the Padma Shri. In 2008, Mohanlal became the first actor ever to receive the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel by Territorial Army.

It is commendable that a young and relatively new actor like him tries to move beyond his comfort zone and tries to explore several characters. Theevandi is an another example of it, in which he plays the role of an ordinary and unemployed young man who is a chain smoker. Fellani TP , filmmaker of Theevandi , is a debutant and Asian Academy of Film & Television graduate. As the title card and teasers mention, the hero’s smoking habits can turn out to be an important element in the movie.
Another interesting factor that has grabbed the audience’s attention is actor Sudeesh’s make over to a shoddily dressed, bald and old guy who plays the role of Tovino’s uncle. As the story is set around a small village and ordinary people in it, it is expected to strike a chord with the common folk.

The film, features Tovino Thomas, and debutant Sharanya in the lead role. Maradona is directed by Vishnu Narayan and is bankrolled by S Vinod Kumar under the banner Mini Studios. The film’s story and screenplay have been written by Krishna Moorthy. Its song ‘Kaadhale,’ crooned by Sruthy Sasidharan is a mellow romantic track written by Vinayak Sasikumar, for Shyam Sushin’s tune. The song has a very romantic feel to it, and quite beautifully describes the fantastic period of getting into a relationship.
The others stars in the film include Chemban Vinod Jose, Leona Lishoy, Tito Wilson, Kichu Tellus and Jins Baskar, with Deepak D Menon handling the camera and Saiju Sreedharan being its editor.
While the title gave rise to speculations that it may be a sports drama centred around football, apparently it is not the case. Maradona will be an action-packed romantic drama, the film is all about a youngster, played by Tovino, who raises his voice for his people. The movie is expected to hit the theaters by May.

Tovino Thomas and Pia Bajpai are starring in the upcoming romantic thriller Abhiyum Anuvam. The song from the movie was released recently on social media.
Piya Bajpayee play’s the lead actress in this film along with Tovino. The song is sung by Haricharan and Shashaa Tirupathi, and the lyrics are written by Madhan Karkhi. The song shows the sweet and magical moments of being in a relationship with an added advantage of social media tools like internet, phone, and Whatsapp. From falling in a relationship to being addicted to each other, this song has all those features which make it a nice background for a good love story.
This film marks Tovino’s entry into Tamil cinema. Titled as Abhiyum Anuvum in Tamil and Abhiyude Katha Anuvinteyum in Malayalam, the romantic drama is being directed by veteran cinematographer BR Vijayalakshmi. Written by Uday Mahesh, the film tells a very intense love story of two youngsters living in different situations. Tovino is playing a role of a software engineer and Pia Bajpai plays the character of a peasant.

Kamal’s much-awaited movie Aami, a biopic of Madhavikutty, lacks nothing but Aami in it. The woman who lived and penned for truth is placed in the movie in a sanitized plot. The woman who was not afraid of writing the truth is portrayed in a censored arena. The movie starts with a scene in which a bird gets crushed in between the leaves of the fan, where Madhavikutty is hospitalized. The movie looks spectacular with the Charismatic frames of Madhu Neelakandan.
Kamal’s Aami is lacking the soul. The woman we see on screen is none other than Manju Warrier itself. If Kamal wanted to visualize Madhavikutty on screen but didn’t want to get immersed in controversy he could have used the third-person narrative in the screenplay. Here the story is said in Madhavikutty’s perspective but each and every fact is wrapped inside a controversy-free panorama. Madhavikutty’s pen never feared of controversies. So using the first-person narrative and hiding all the facts is a matter of vain. If Kamal employed the third-person narrative and made this censored version, it could have at least been a good strategy of film-making.
The Neermathalam plays an important role throughout her life in the film. Her POV of the tree is visualized in variant forms based on her age. The use of Mahavikutty’s insane fantasies helped to build some sense as a film. Her secret lover Lord Krishna, is delivered beautifully. The screenplay is poorly constructed. The placement of scenes where the story travels from past to present and intercutting in between was the poor choice of plot. The film could have been much better if the story had a slow progression from Aami’s childhood to old age. The use of some characters like Janu amma, Valli, who were helpers at her ancestral home helped to show the changes in the timeline, even though the placement was tangled.
The dialogue construction was good to an extent, but the similarity of dialogue delivery made them flat. The plasticity of laugh that Kamal portrayed is pathetic to someone who has heard Madhavikutty’s, so is the dialogue modulation. However, the selection of words for Aami needs to be appreciated. The lyrics of Rafeeq Ahamed and scores of Bijibal are far beyond description. The casting was somewhat good, even though the protagonist failed to amuse the audience. Manju Warrier, known as a Female Superstar, fails to bring any facial expressions for her character. Her smile, tears, anger everything has a plastic nature and hence Pattanam Rasheed’s effort went vain. The old and young women who played Nalapat Balamani Amma should be praised. Madhav Das remains a good character throughout the film. Lord Krishna and Akbar Ali are mesmerizing.
The bond between Aami and Das is something hard to crack. Das’s relation with his gay partner neither creates any emotional struggle that Aami had nor generates any sympathy for her. As Kamal tried to drive away from controversies he failed to portray her relationship with some of her lovers. Carlo and Rahul Madhav became some unwanted elements in the storyline. However, Kamal succeeded to depict Kamala’s love for Lord Krishna. Her conversion to Islam is well crafted so that it won’t hurt any religion. Trying to portray Madhavikutty without creating controversy is futile like diving into a river without knowing to swim. Those audiences who would experience Aami without a knowledge of who she is, would definitely ask that why she is so special because you won’t even get a glimpse of the renowned writer Madhavikutty from Aami.

Tovino comes to the big screens again with his new film Thrangam. Tharangam is the debut production project of Dhanush in the Malayalam film industry. Dominic Arun, the director of the film is an aspiring artist and an individual to look up for the film industry.
Just after the release of the trailer of the film, the video has been getting great responses and reach in less than 24 hours. “The first look poster and the song video had got very good responses and I’m glad the audiences are receiving it well. The audiences have changed their attitude towards the film industry. They have found a new level of appreciation for every artwork, regardless of the category or the genre,” said Tovino.
Talking about the experience of working for the film, Tovino said “Even though we had a tight schedule, there were no problems whatsoever, due to perfect coordination among the entire crew. The people have been giving positive comments about the song and trailers and the credit goes to the filmmaker”.
“The film is a comedy crime thriller and there have been movies done in this genre in the Malayalam industry. But, what makes this film different and unique is our approach towards the topic and the visuals to the edits”, Tovino replied when asked about Tharangam.
Malayalees have found a new sense of respect for the film industry and I’m sure the audience will appreciate good films like we always do”, says Tovino.
