Australian World Orchestra (AWO) will be the first of its type to perform in Kochi. The concert is scheduled to take place at Lulu International Covention Centre, Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty on September 25 at 7:30pm. Addressing to the media, Susan Grace, Australia’s Consul-General for South India (Chennai) said, “the 52 member team led by AWO artistic director and chief conductor Alexander Briger will perform in Kochi after conducting the performance in Chennai”.
There would be a total of three performances in India and the finale would take place Mumbai. Education and arts is the main link she added.
“We are proud to be the first western orchestra to perform in Kochi. AWO was founded in 2009 at the Sydney Opera House and are an all-Australian group with musicians playing with big orchestras around the world such as Berlin, London, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong. We are a group of professionals, who are at the top of their game,” said AWO’s CEO Gabrielle Thompson, while speaking at the press conference on Wednesday.
Alexander Briger said that AWO has tailored a special programme for the city’s first western classical concert. Mezzo-Soprano Caroline Meng and Violinist Daniel Dodds will join AWO in for the musical evening in Kochi. AWO will also perform legendary musical symphonies by Beethoven, Mozart and Bizet. He also said, “we are like the national orchestra team of Australia, just like Indian cricket team in India which plays worldwide and are quite remarkable at their sport. The musicians in our orchestra team team perform all over the world but are 100 percent Australians and are good musicians. The last time we had a concert in India was in Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi and it was coordinated by Zubin Mehta. And my experience in India was fantastic and people really appreciated our music”.
They will contribute a part of their money from the programme to the Centre for Autism India, Thiruvalla and will conduct workshop and performances for the children.
