The trailer of Kamal Hassan’s much awaited sequel Viswaroopam 2 has been released in three different languages today. While Aamir Khan launched the Hindi version of the trailer, Kamal’s daughter Shruti Hassan launched the Tamil version and Jr. NTR  launched the trailer in Telugu. The film is scheduled to hit the silver screen on August 10.

The director cum producer of the film, Kamal Hassan himself plays the lead role in the film. Viswaroopam 2 is the first film to release after Kamal’s entry into politics. The film has been shot in Tamil and Hindi. The Telugu version is a dubbed one.

The first part Vishwaroopam had encountered several controversies and was initially banned by the then Jayalalithaa government in 2013. The film however was a blockbuster at the box office after Madras High Court ordered for its release. The success of the previous film has thus created the hype for the release of its sequel.

Viswaroopam 2 is also a political thriller film where Kamal comes back in the role of Indian spy Wisam Ahmad Kashmiri  The trailer intrigues the audience with the well crafted visuals and the acting brilliance of Kamal Hassan. And M Ghibran’s music enhances the impact of the trailer.

The cast of the film also includes Rahul Bose, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jermiah, Shekhar Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman, Jaideep Ahlawat, Nasser, Anant Mahadevan, Yusuf Hussain and Rajendra Gupta.

Other endevours of Kamal in the recent times include the upcoming films Indian 2, by director Shankar, which is  the sequel to his film Indian (1996) and another upcoming film Sabash Naidu. He is also up for hosting the Tamil version of popular reality show Big Boss.

Filmmakers tend to make their dream projects joining hands with superstars, creating huge hype and news value. The films dropped halfway because of alleging creative difference and various other reasons. There are many such movies in Malayalam Film industry, which is officially announced and later dropped. Here is a list of Some of those projects, which created a massive excitement among audience.

DHANUSHKODI (1989)

The movie Dhanushkodi planned right after the success of Aryan by Priyadarshan was also dropped midway. Raghuvaran and Girija Shettar (Vandanam fame) were supposed to share screen space with Mohanlal.  Sreenivasan played an undercover cop meets his old friend Mohanlal and informs him about his mission on drug mafia. Raghuvaran played the druglord, but the twist shows the real guy behind Raghuvaran is Mohanlal. Sadly this movie never happened because of financial issue after the first half. Following Sagar alias Jackie, Amal Neerad had shown interest in reviving this project but nothing has materialised as yet.

CHOODYAM (1990)

Director G.S.Vijayan decided to remake K.S.Ravikumar’s debut tamil movie Puriyatha Puthir. Rahman escapes from prison and takes shelter in Rupini’s (Komal Mahuvakar) house. He finds that her husband Captain Raju is murdered. Rahman asks Rupini to hide him from the police. As Rupini knows him from her college days, she believes him to be innocent. Later Rahman finds that Rupini already knew that her husband has been murdered. Rahman suspects Rupini. The suspense is revealed by CBI Officer Mohanlal. Actually the film was almost completed but Mohanlal’s role couldn’t create the expected depth in the movie. So they have decided to drop the movie.

AUSTRAILIA (1992)

Producer Suresh Kumar and  actor Shankar planned to make the film with Mohanlal directed by Rajeev Anchal. Shankar decided to play as villian. The film was about a Formula 1 race driver, Rahul, due to an accident he get severely burned. But at the end Rahul winning an important race and finding the people behind the accident. Mohanlal and Ramya Krishna was paired for the lead roles. The first half was done in chennai but the other half was more expensive as it was intended to be done in Australia. Due to the expensive shoot they dropped the film halfway.

SWARNACHAMARAM (1996)

Rajeevnath was the director of the movie Swarnachamaram. Another most awaited film. During making it was a blockbuster expectation because of the presence of Shivaji Ganeshan, Nagesh and Nedumudi Venu along with Mohanlal. The difference in opinion for the climax of the movie was the reason for dropping this big budget film. Mercy killing was the theme of this movie. But director KBK menon used the same dates of Mohanlal and Shivaji Ganeshan and done a new film Oru Yathramozhi directed by Prathap Pothen.

KALARI VIKRAMAN (2003)

An Indian feature film directed by Deepak Mohan. Mukesh and Vidya Balan was paired for the lead roles. Kunju lakshmi and her grandfather Moose lives in their old property and Moose does the living by treating snake bitten people. He never charges them and see it as a service, so their life is also a struggle due to financial issues. But the people are always there to support them. Kadaikkinukkattu family aim for Moose’s property but loses the court battle on the same. They hatch a plot against Moose and Kunju Lakshmi with assistance from police as well. Now the people tries to bring a savior ( Kalari Vikraman ) to protect Moose, but he is serving a jail term. The makers abandoned the project due to financial issues even though the film is almost complete.

NAIR-SAN (2008) 

In 2008 that it was announced Mohanlal and Hollywood action king Jackie Chan will pair up in KanneMadanguka fame Albert’s movie based on the legendary Indian freedom fighter Ayyappan Pillai Madhavan Nair (known as Nair San to the Japanese). However, the project did not take off. The project which could not materialize in 2008 is still on with the director Albert Antony himself, making it official in a recent interview. The plot of the movie is set in the pre-independence period. It will showcase the life story of a Malayali soldier, Ayyappan Nair. Jackie Chan is said to play the role of a martial arts trainer. Japan, China and Mongolia will be the main locations for the movie.
