Did you know it’s Karan Johar’s B’day today? It is! This celebrated Director, Writer and Producer have been through a lot of controversies, but he’s always come out strong. He recently came out with his biography, ‘An Unsuitable Boy’.
To celebrate his B’day, here are 5 of his movies that we found really endearing.
The movie had the ever beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan alongside Ranbir Kapoor, and Anushka Sharma in the main roles.
Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta in lead roles, this film tugged at heartstrings. Though he didn’t direct the movie, he did write both the screenplay and story.
A socially relevant theme at the time. Shah Rukh Khan played the autistic ‘Khan’ in the film. Again, an emotionally moving film. It also starred Kajol and Jimmy Shergill.
A love triangle between the popular guy, his tomboyish best friend and the new girl. The movie stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji in the main roles.
This family oriented drama had amazing sets and beautiful shots. It starred Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol and Kareena Kapoor in the main roles.

Neerja was a movie that was critically acclaimed and has received many accolades both for the movie and for the stellar acting as well. It was also the debut of Jim Sarbh, who played the hijacker Khalil in the movie, into the film industry. An Indian theater actor/director and film actor based in Mumbai, Jim Sarbh was no novice to the field of acting.
FWD Life got in touch with him to ask a few quick questions about his upcoming releases, ‘Raabta’ & ‘A Death In The Gunj’. The light-hearted actor replied with a dash of humor thrown in through the answers.
‘A Death In The Gunj’ is about a little sprite type fellow trying to play with the big kids and not being equipped. There’s a pain in the sprite like there always is and old friends reunited are often oblivious.
Raabta is all kinds of films wrapped up in one.
One was trying to be gritty documentary style, the other is full masala type.
Two characters for the price of one. Past life guy: some wood who wants to play with fire, present life guy: fire trying to burn through the water. Shot in Budapest (present) and Mauritius (past): that was sweet.
No, I can’t recall the whole experience for you. Yeah, it was dandy. Sushant very funny and responsive. Kriti, earnest and driven.
Worked out and ate a lot. Straightened my hair. Tried to learn the lines and imbue them with meaning and style.
I didn’t lock myself up in a room for three weeks drawing pictures of Kriti under extreme sleep deprivation or anything.
Film. Acting.
Currently on the sets of Sanjay Dutt biopic as we speak. Ranbir’s cool. Rajkumar Hirani Sir is cool. Generally cool situation.
Padmavati: can’t wait to see how this film shapes up!
But how they’re going? That’s a secret. Especially the last one with Anand Rai, that one’s a secret from even me (I’m not in it.).
Recently? Ages ago man. I was playing a new character in that play without enough preparation so obviously, I acted badly.

]]>She loved watching movies. The black & white films in the village talkies used to take her imagination out of the village boundaries. When Annie walked into the Thekkumpuram house for the first time holding hands with Devassi Ouseph as his better half, year back in 1970, she never ever imagined, one day, she is going to lead the lamp to the then romantic hero on celluloid. In 2012, all eyes were rolled up to Cochin as SRK, the King of Bollywood landed up to inaugurate Emmanuval silks, the textile empire. The Chairman of the world’s largest textile showroom, Annie Ouseph remembers how humble the great artist was and says, “if I could take leave for a couple of days, I would have surely visited Mannat, SRK’s bungalow in Mumbai the next day he invited me and grand children to”.
It was in 1990, when her eldest son after going to Surat on a new job parceled a pack of ‘saree’ to be sold at their shop in Mannampetta, near Trichur, the provision – grocery merchant, Thekkumpuram Devassi Ouseph discussed with his wife, his plans for a new venture, the textile business. Since Annie shook an ‘yes’ to her husband’s dream, the couple started Emmanuval Textiles at Trichur and in less than ten years, they were on to fame with the biggest wholesale shop in Kerala amidst a couple of other shops around Trichur by 2001. In 2003 nearby their home at Mannampetta, Annie and Ouseph opened up a 10000 sq ft shop, the largest village sector textile showroom in Kerala. By then, their two elder sons were also busy helping them flourish. When their younger sons were also ready for game, the couple opened the Trichur town showroom in 2008 and later, the Kottayam showroom in 2010; both inaugurated by the famous duo Mohanlal and Mammootty. This marked a shower of change in Kerala’s own marketing strategies, remembers Annie. Other competitors also started bringing in big time celebrities for different promotions and then Emmanuval Silks pioneered the next stage ‘giving away Mercedes benz’ as a jackpot to customers during Onam season sales. Ouseph passed away in 2008. But, a lioness Annie along with her four children built up the dream her husband had hatched, nurtured it with care and the Emmanuval family broke all the written sagas of textile ventures and opened up the world’s largest silk showroom spreading about 5 lakh square feet.
Appollonian Family
Annie viisits her showrooms in Trichur, Kottayam and Kochin once in a week. Happily living with every members of her family in a single shelter, Annie is all envy to the nuclear family chits. Annie stays with her four sons Shaju, Baiju, Raju and Jiju and their wives and children in a 20000 sq ft bungalow. Her sons, the directors of the Emmanuval group says, it was ‘Ammachi’ and her love for the family that has helped us stay together in a single home all these years. They have no plans to build separate houses too. The house is custom made to suit enough privacy for each brother along with a separate room in the centre for Annie and a common prayer hall and dining. ‘Emmanuval Bhavanam’ is any body’s dream with sixteen members sheltered under the roof and care of a loving mother. Apart from being pillar to the 250 crore annual turnover company, Annie is ‘Ammachi’ to the 3500 odd staffs of Emmanauval group.
Driving home
Over the years, many homes have carved their names and words of love on the tree of life. The graffiti of peace and harmony, spruced by a mother, maintained by few sons; a smiling Sunday to the village church of Mannampetta, and we are back to the city with enlightened memory and inspiring thoughts.
