]]>A private school in Thiruvananthapuram expelled a class 12 boy for hugging his female friend publicly during an Arts festival. Kerala high court has upheld the decision of the school. The court in its verdict mentioned that the panel has the power to only recommend to the government for grant of relief to the victim. The Principal is the institution’s guardian and has the power to take the decisions that are necessary to maintain the discipline of the institution.
Besides hugging, the boy was found guilty of sharing pictures of them together on social media. Both the students had to apologize to the school authority. “This is an act of violation of school discipline”, said the School Management.
The father of the boy was called to the school to discuss this matter. He was shocked by the Secretary’s abusive behavior towards the 16-year old. The boy was called a ‘Bull in heat’ by the Secretary.
Shashi Tharoor slammed the school with his tweets.
Puritanical patriarchy run rampant. By sexualizing innocent affection between friends & fellow students, we are creating self-conscious hypocrites trained to suppress their feelings. And in this case, damaging a student’s academic career. I’m appalled. https://t.co/An0yScjBep

Now, the parents of the student have decided to appeal to a high court division against the expulsion.
Is public display of affection like a handshake or a hug a big crime to spoil a child’s future. Do let us know about your thoughts in the comments.
