Shah Rukh Khan gets an invitation from the Oscar authorities after omitting him from the 2017 list. The new list consists of a record of 928 members invited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as the body behind the Oscars seek to enhance diversity. In the year 2017, the Academy had omitted the big name Shah Rukh from the invitee list. Around 744 members were invited and the list consisted of the names Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, and Amitabh Bachchan. Many actresses younger than Shah Rukh like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra were included in the list. But this year, artistes from 59 countries have been invited and the Academy, in an announcement said that the new members will increase the diversity as 49 percent of the invitees are females and 38 percent are the people of colours.

India features a wide line of eminent personalities in the list of new invitees that include female actors like Tabu and Madhuri Dixit- Nene to name a few. Anil Kapoor is another important personality to be invited along with Ali Fazal and Naseeruddin Shah. Bengali actors Soumitra Chattergee (Bridge) and Madhabi Mukherjee (Charulata) are also enlisted. Yash Raj Films’s Aditya Chopra and producer Guneet Monga also are a part of the list. Cinematographer Anil Mehta, noted for his work in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar, Manish Malhotra and Dolly Ahluwalia from the category of costume designers. Production designers Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Rey who worked in Haider also represent India. Dangal editor Ballu Saluja, Sneha Khanwalkar, and Usha Khana represent the music sector.

The Academy has been working in order to include more diversity in the voting panel so as to avoid a controversy like when the Oscars were dubbed “white” for failing to recognise the talents of colour in 2016. With women coming forward and demanding better representation through #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, the Academy seems to have taken these changes in consideration by diversifying its membership.

The latest news about the actress is her apologizing for the controversial episode of Quantico featuring Indian terrorists, the popular American series in which Priyanka stars as former FBI/CIA agent Alex Parrish

One of the latest Quantico episode aired on June 1 titled “The Blood of Romeo” met with social media backlash from the Indian audiences. The episode showed a terrorist attack on an international summit in New York by Indian nationalists, who stole weaponized uranium and sought to blame the planned violence on Pakistan.

That entire episode was not just an attack on Hindus but also an attack on India. Peddling Pakistani agenda that Indians make elaborate plots to frame Pakistan.

In response to the harsh criticisms about the episode, Priyanka took to Twitter to apologize for hurting the sentiments of the Indian audiences. She also asserted that she is a proud Indian.

I’m extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I’m a proud Indian and that will never change.

American Broadcasting Company (ABC) also apologized for stirring emotions of the audience in a statement they issued earlier, also extending their support to the actress claiming that she is being aimed at unfairly. “She has no involvement in the casting of the show or the storylines depicted in the series.” stated ABC and further emphasised that Quantico is a work of fiction.

Let’s just hope the filmmakers of Ms Marvel will hear the fans voices, suggesting that there is no one better to play Ms Marvel than Priyanka Chopra.

Quantico, the FBI drama, premiered its third season on April 26, after a gap of almost a year. The show will continue to air its current season till mid-July. Quantico has Priyanka Chopra as Alex Parrish, an FBI recruit, who is framed for a bombing attack. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show has only an average of 2.4 million viewers.

The film is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Ali has directed two major Bollywood hits Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. Throwback to when Priyanka Chopra’s flawless armpits were the talk of the town. The Sass Queen appeared on the cover of Maxim with unnaturally flawless armpits which was nothing but a botched photoshop correction. A lot of tweets followed the cover release, pointing it out. It doesn’t come as a surprise, since PC is a global icon.

I have to give it to her sense of wit and humour since she shut down those rumours in the most witty way possible, by putting a picture of her ‘natural armpits’! Twitter applauded her for muting trolls with just one tweet.

Now, India is a developing country, is it not? But when PeeCee and PM Narendra Modi took some time out from their busy schedules to meet, she was criticised over her choice of dress and also for sitting cross-legged before an elder. Apparently, it’s disrespectful, the way she dressed AND sat before PM Modi. Tweets about her not treating him with respect and being a disgrace to our nation were aplenty, but it didn’t take her long to shut them up again.

Maybe she should be known as the ‘Queen of One Tweet’ from now on, eh? We hope nothing dulls your sparkle, especially people who need to *ahem* maybe get their brains out of the gutter.
