]]>Margherita is the mother of all pizzas. This Neopaltian-style pizza has thin crust, fresh tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese, and just a few leaves of basil. Margherita’s toppings are simple but they also have the power to be truly sublime in a way few other toppings can be.
This singular topping even graces the pizza emoji! It makes sense if you really consider everything that is good about pepperoni: The salty and slightly spicy taste holds its own against waves of melty, gooey cheese and gets ever-so-slightly crisped in the hot oven in such a crave-worthy way that no one can resist pulling them straight from the smoldering hot pizza and dropping them directly into their mouths.
BBQ chicken is reported to be the invention of California Pizza Kitchen’s original pizza chef Ed LaDou in 1985. His original pizza creation was made with BBQ sauce, chicken, cilantro, red onions, and fontina cheese and remains on the CPK menu to this day. BBQ Pizza is beloved because it walks the border of sweet and savory and makes the best use of leftover chicken.
A combination of tomato sauce, cheese, ham, and pineapple that is as beloved as it is despised still makes our list of iconic pizzas. Hawaiian pizza was reportedly invented in Canada, not the American islands it is named for. Like BBQ chicken pizza, those who love it cite the sweet and savory combination as the biggest draw to this popular pizza.
Meat-lover’s pizza is the hero of our iconic pizzas, as it holds the most toppings on a single pie: pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, and mushrooms all come together in this hearty, super-savory pizza. Meat-lover’s pizza is our go-to when feeding a hungry crowd.

Matthieu Ricard, a 71-year-old Tibetan Buddhist monk, has been hailed as the ‘world’s happiest man’ by scientists. Born in France, he grew up in an intellectual atmosphere – his father was a renowned philosopher and his mother a painter. Ricard went on to earn a Ph.D degree in molecular genetics, but left it all to become a monk in the Himalayas. And has been practicing meditation everyday from the age of 20.
He participated in a 12-year-long brain study that was conducted by Richard Davidson, a neuroscientist from the University of Wisconsin. The study’s focus was on the positive effects of meditation and compassion on the brain, and it was found that when Ricard meditated, his brain felt exceptionally light.
Take out 15 minutes from the day, sit down alone, and think happy thoughts. Yes, it’s as simple as that. Just train your mind to not think of sad or negative thoughts during this time. Consciously, focus on positive thoughts. It might be difficult in the beginning but gradually you can train your mind as you want. Nobody is an expert, when they start.. all good things take time.
This sounds oh-so-simple that we just might be tempted to dismiss it as one of these preachy mantras we all hear often but don’t have the time and patience to. Our mind is so preoccupied with a zillion things that we may find it easy to order a pizza but wouldn’t find 15 minutes for ourselves, so that we can be happy. After running on routines for sometime, our mind becomes fearful of experimentation. That’s the cause and culture of conditioning that we suffer from. Note: It is a self made condition.
Training the mind is a very easy task, if you really try
The human mind is a wonderful organ. It has limitless potential and is much stronger than we think it to be. It is possible to train it to do anything, even be happy. Matthieu says, “With mental training, we can always bring our level of happiness to a different level It’s like running. If I train, I might run a marathon. I might not become an Olympic champion, but there is a huge difference between training and not training. So why should that not apply to the mind?… There is a view that benevolence, attention, emotional balance and resilience are skills that can be trained. So if you put them all together, you could say that happiness is a skill that can be trained.”
Have a look at what Matthieu had to say when asked about happiness…

Getting to explore space sounds pretty cool, but the experience comes with many sacrifices. True, time away from family must be rough, but one of the most heartbreaking losses is having to leave yummy-licious pizza behind on Earth and having to eat canned food.
Paolo Nespoli, an Italian astronaut, who’s currently orbiting our planet aboard the International Space Station, missed it so much (Of course!) that he decided to bring it up to his boss’s notice during a live streamed public event.
All for good! The result? Pizza in space!
Scientists enjoy movie night with a pizza party
According to a tweet from Nespoli, his boss delivered the ingredients needed to create some out of this world (literally!) pizza pies. The fixings flew up last month on a commercial supply ship, and the crew wasted little time pulling out the flatbread, tomato sauce, cheese, pepperoni, olives, olive oil, anchovy paste and pesto.
In preparation for movie night, the astronauts gathered together to sauce, top, and (like a boss) toss their pies in zero gravity (how cool is that!). And while it might not have been up to Earth standards, Nespoli said they were “unexpectedly delicious.”
We all know Earth pizza — in all its hot, melty, cheeeeesy goodness — is great *drools*. But the one in space? Well, go on & see for yourself.
