We live in a colorful world. Colors influence our day to day life to a very great extent. How much have we thought about the effects of different colors on our minds.! This may seem simple and irrelevant, but color theory and its effects on the human mind are fascinating. So, Let’s take a look at some of them;

 First of all, an understanding of color theory is necessary. Color theory is the idea that the colors a person is surrounded with can have an effect on the person’s health – whether physical or mental. Color psychology is based on the idea that the colors a sighted person is exposed to can have an effect on that person’s emotions and even on the individual’s health.

Here are some colors and what they stand for when it comes to mental conditions;

RED

Red is the color of energy. It motivates a person to be enthusiastic and youthful. Energy, passion, excitement, etc. are induced by the color red.

YELLOW

Yellow is the color of joy. It’s because of this, that yellow is named as the ‘happy color’. This ‘happy color’ has the ability to enhance mood and induce optimism.

BLUE

Blue stands for peace and tranquility. There is no doubt one can soothe their mind looking at a deep blue ocean. The same blue magic works here.

PURPLE

Purple makes us feel proud. A feeling of royalty and magneticity is induced by purple.

ORANGE

Orange stands for balance, vibrance, and warmth. So one may feel comfy in the nearness of the orange color. Other than this, dining rooms are ideal to be painted in orange. Because orange is proved to be helping in the digestion of food.

GREEN

Nature comes to our mind whenever we think about green. Green color and its freshness are beyond words. Health and prosperity are what nature brings.

WHITE

One might feel clean and revered in the presence of white. We know white stands for peace. But that is just one of many things the color white makes us feel.

Chose your colors accordingly. Because it has the ability to influence our minds.

Anxiety disorder is very common among young adults but understanding the difference between everyday anxiety and anxiety disorder is crucial. It is of utmost importance to talk about it and bring it to light

It might be a big day filled with important meetings, events, or exams and it is completely natural to feel anxious about. But if you feel the same quite often and the fluttering butterflies in your tummy are never at rest, then you should give it a thought. Anxiety disorder is not the temporary fear we face right before anything important, it is much more intense and has a prolonged effect that can affect your day to day performance.

Here is a chart that can help you understand whether what you feel is an everyday worry or is it anxiety disorder

Being easily irritable, sweating, increased heart rate, worrying about an event months prior or after it, having difficulty in controlling your worries, easily being fatigued, not able to follow a sleep cycle, etc., are the common symptoms of anxiety disorder.

Anxiety disorder is of many types. There is social anxiety disorder, where the afflicted person fears socialising or performing in public due to the fear of facing embarrassment, being negatively judged, or rejected in public. People who have social anxiety disorder may also experience many physical symptoms such as rapid increase in heart rate, sweating and nausea. Although they will be aware of the situation, they are usually helpless about the situation.

Panic disorder is another type of anxiety disorder also known as panic attack where the person experiences a sudden episode of intense fear. During a panic attack the person might feel out of control of the situation and show symptoms such as sweating, palpitation, accelerated heart rate, trembling, shortness of breath, and choking.

Research has proved that genetic and environment play a role in this disorder. But anxiety disorders can be kept under control with the help of treatments, therapies, and some self help steps. Psychotherapy or ‘talk therapy’ is the most used cure which is tailored according specific anxiety and needs of the individual for maximum benefit. The discomfort faced by people in this form of healing is initial discomfort experienced when they have to open about their fears and confront it.

Self-help groups and talking to trustworthy friends has been proved to be helpful for many in keeping their anxiety under-control to an extend. But taking a professional’s help will always be the best thing to do.

In the current scenario, one out of five students have anxiety disorder. The excessive involvement in social media is reported to impair your social skill, increasing disinterest in real life socialisation, resulting in isolation. The key is to understand the symptoms and seek help without hesitation. Mental health is as important as physical health and thus you shouldn’t shy away from opening up.
