Met Gala 2018 will explore fashion’s relationship with the Catholic church and features designs from Coco Chanel, John Galliano, and Cristóbal Balenciaga, alongside 40 pieces on loan from the Vatican. Its exclusive guest list is filled with models, designers and industry big-hitters, all personally approved by Vogue Editor-in-Chef Anna Wintour. Like its name suggests, the Met Gala takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, otherwise known as the Met.
Incorporating the theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, the event’s most controversial theme to date, the A-list used this year’s red carpet to show off their most sacred looks. With crowns, crosses, and wings, the 2018 Met Gala red carpet was full of over-the-top ensembles that combined high-fashion and religion. These are the most delighful outfits.
Pop star Rihanna has taken this year’s Met Gala theme to the next level with her pope-inspired outfit, complete with papal headdress, her dress and image is more like an unapologetic feminist queen.
Katy Perry arrived in a gold Versace ensemble and an enormous pair of angelic wings that put Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show wings to shame.
Kylie Jenner wore a black gown with a cutout to it. She held hands with Travis Scott on the carpet.
Sarah Jessica Parker opted for a gold Dolce & Gabbana gown embroidered with sacred hearts and a towering nativity scene headpiece.
Frances McDormand blew the fashion pack away in a turquoise Valentino look from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Spring 2018 couture show. She completed the bold look with a huge floral headpiece.
Ariana Grande pulled her look straight from one of the most famous places of worship on the planet. She Dressed as the Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Anna Wintour stepped onto the red carpet dressed as “Cardinal Chanel”
Priyanka Chopra Dressed in a deep burgundy strapless gown. But it was the theatrics that her intricately embroidered and beaded hood that brought to the Met Gala that was the real winner.
Bella Hadid arrived in a black gown with a sheer train and gold cross necklace. She looks regal with an edgy twist, courtesy of her latex bodice.
Kendall Jenner arrived wearing an off-the-shoulder ruched couture top with sheer elbow-length gloves and matching “long train” couture pants. She embodies a “Modern Angel”
