Beyond The Scene (BTS), is a seven membered boys band from South Korea which is stealing the hearts of millions across the globe. For many millennials, they are the door to the world of Korean-pop music.  This drool-worthy boy band consisting of the members – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook – who made their debut in 2013 started off with hip hop and is now experimenting with other genres like RnB and trap. BTS is Bangtan Sonyoendan translating to Bulletproof Boys Scouts, but they changed their international name to Beyond the Scene marking their presence in the international music scenario.

K-pop music generally comes as a package. It has catchy music, intense lyrics, well-choreographed dance routines. BTS’ music is loved to the core for the substance it holds. They use their music to reach out to the youth to talk about self-love and the need to follow your dreams. Their lyrics cover a variety of topics from politics to pure love. They won the Top Social Artist in Billboard Music Awards again this year.

BTS joined hands with United Nations for Children’s Fund (UNICF) for an anti-violence campaign known as LOVE MYSELF. This happened after the release of their record breaking album Love Yourself: Her, in 2017. BTS and their label, Big Hit Entertainment will be part of this campaign for two years. This campaign aims at making this world a safer place so that children and teenagers will be able to live happy and healthy lives without fearing violence.

In 2000, the Manipur Revolutionary People’s Front issued a notice banning Hindi films and TV shows  as well as the use of Hindi in an effort to fight the ‘Indianisation’ of the north-eastern state of Manipur. With this, their next source of entertainment was Korean entertainment industry, mostly because of the cultural proximity. And this triggered the Korean Wave in India.

BTS has a very dedicated fan following, who are known as A.R.M.Y (Adorable Representative M.C for Youth). Indian fans took baby steps into their fandom by doing dance covers to their albums and memorising the lyrics. Also, Vh1 has a whole segment dedicated for K-pop after receiving continuous requests from fans for BTS tracks.

In 2012, the very first official K-Pop contest was held in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi with 37 participants and an audience numbering 300. Last year, the total number of participants increased up to 898 and the venue of the ‘K-pop Contest India 2017’ on July 29 was the Talkatora Indoor Stadium that saw a turnout of over 2,000 K-pop fans.

Steve Aoki, DJ, producer and designer did a collab with BTS also featuring rapper Desiigner was a massive hit.

There are rumors that BTS might be preforming in India as a part of their world tour. This speculation came in because Snapchat gave them their own filter which is accessible only to countries that are part of the world tour and India has it!
