Kochi’s Island Music Festival that was held on May 6th in Durbar Hall turned out to be one of the mega music festivals of South India with thousands of dance pledged devotees participating in it. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly Moguai, an internationally famous German music producer and Dj. But the desi beats by our Indian Dj’s and artists had some music magic of their own.
The event started at 3 lasting till 10 pm. The hot summer with 33 degrees didn’t damper the enthusiasm of the crowd. The performance by Boon & Bayn – Jijo set the crowd in motion and promised this event is going to be incredibly amazing. The colour works of drummer Sonu Sebastian teamed up with Dj Ricky Brown was a beautiful euphony. As Sonu struck the drums, neon coloured sprinkles thumbed up with the beat so did the people.
The power pack performance of Ribin-Arez-James won the heart of crowd with their Malayalam track they played. The dreamy dandy ear candy, Ribin when sang the Malayalam song, the whole spirit of the public went 10 times multiple folds. People broke into the traditional dance steps, dancing mindlessly to the rhythm, as their soul transported into some parallel universe of thunder music madness.
The event had great performances by many artists like Tinu, Klture, Shaa – Anil, Judhin and Envy. Each of these artists delivered their best, making it hard to rate one best than the other. By the time Moguai played the song mammoth, the all-time high music spirits of the crowd went on to a completely different level. The event ended with a psychedelic trance performance by Raveen that ensured people left the event full exuberance.
Another aspect of this event that caught attention was the lights and sound. The entire stage setup, LED wall was beautifully done making the artist presentation as per international standards. The first Island Music Festival (IMF) was held in 2014.
With the launch of second IMF, it appears promising for more of this event to come in future. Events like this provide a platform for the young untapped potential in this city and also it gives the public exposure to the current world music. Island Music festival is starting a music revolution in Kerala. Brace yourself for the next launch of IMF, as it is getting bigger, better and extraordinary each year.
