Magic comes once in long four years. It’s time for FIFA World Cup Russia 2018. Football lovers all over the world are geared up to witness the top notch gaming in the month long football festival. Each football season gifts us significant and memorable moments of the game. We also hark back to the quadrennial song releases.
This year, Nicky Jam teamed up with Kosovo-Albanian singer Era Istrefi and Will Smith for Live It Up. The song has definitely not lived up to people’s expectations and have thus got us tuning back into the most loved and sung along anthems.
Waka Waka was a massive hit by Shakira that got a staggering 1.8bn views on YouTube. People in every nook and cranny of the world get on their feet to the rhythm of Waka Waka and hails Africa. The song captures more of the essence of Africa rather than World Cup or football. Yet, it is one song that we all love and have heard for umpteen number of times.
When Shakira had the official song of the 2010 World Cup, K’Naan gave us its one true anthem. Whether it was Waka Waka or Waving Flag that grabbed our hearts during FIFA 2010 is a debatable question. The chorus of Waving Flag worms its way into the brains of anyone!
The star power of Mr Worldwide and JLo brings the magic of Brazilian Samba onto the world stage with the song. Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte is somewhat overshadowed by the pop icons Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez. However, the fun drumbeats in the song hooks the listener and the song does make us feel the spirit of the game.
Even though We Are One was the official song for FIFA 2014, Shakira’s La La La where she partnered with Activia to support World Food Programme and its School Meals initiative became rather more popular.
No song ever has seized the crux of football as this one. Even after long two decades Ricky Martin’s magic doesn’t cease to amuse us. La Copa De La Vida is so far the best FIFA song that has been released. I can bet there will be no argument on that.
