Every Mother’s Day is an opportunity to make your mother feel special. Take this moment and thank her for all the love. If you are not so sure about how to do this, here is a list of ways you can celebrate Mother’s Day. Lets take a look at the list.
Most of the mothers run around the whole day taking care of the entire family and ends up neglecting the time and care required for them. If this sounds like your mom, take this special day as an opportunity to pamper her. Book an appointment, let her enjoy this day by relaxing.

If your mum doesn’t get tired of shopping that is the clue. Take your mom out to her favourite clothing or jewellery store. Let her pick a piece of her choice. You can be involved in this by suggesting what looks good on her and enjoy the pride glowing on her face while you pay the bill

Give a break to the cooking. Take your mom out for a nice dine out. Do take notes of her favourite cuisines and head out to restaurant that serves the best in town. Make sure that you do your research and book a table in advance in order to avoid last minutes hustles.

Plan a weekend getaway for your mom with friends or you can accompany her. Think about what climate she enjoys and a retreat such a yoga, art, or wine tasting according to her taste that can be arranged along with accommodation.

This one will definitely require your extra effort and pre-planning, but trust me she will love it. Make a list of her close friends or relatives whom she haven’t met in a long time and wishes to. Contact them before hand and check for their availability. You can arrange the get together either at a resort or at your home.

Attend a workshop together. There are a lots of them happening almost every weekend. It could be dance, baking or craft workshop, something that she really wanted to do in a long time but never had the time for it. But chose according to your mother’s taste.

You can start the day by serving her breakfast in bed, and then do any chores that your mother normally does. This could include doing the cleaning, doing the dishes, laundry and dinner. For the rest of the day, make sure that you have a list of her favourites, be it music, magazine, movies etc., to keep her entertained for the whole day. You can also involve other family members on this and plan games.

Ditch the cliched idea of ordering a cake and instead bake one yourself. If you’re not much experienced with baking try mug cakes. They are very easy to make and takes very little time. Surprise her by making them in her favorite mugs. For some easy recipes check out : Treat Yourself With A Mug Full Of Joy With These Mug Cake Recipes
Set the artist in you free this time. It is totally up to you to make a photo-collage or CD with all her favourite songs or a simple card. Get her a scarf and you can add a personal touch by hand embroidering a message to it. You can even repair (if any) damaged jewellery, this will definitely melt her heart.

Just spend some time with her and tell her how much you love her. This Mother’s Day, express your love to her personally and not just through Facebook or Instagram.

The harvest festival is upon us! That’s right …Onam Vanne…!!! Perhaps one of the most anticipated, celebrated occasions on the Malayalis’ calendar, Onam is without doubt the time for merry making for Malayalis across the globe – be it India, USA, Singapore, Dubai, Australia – basically any place in the world where Keralites are making their second homes. There’s a lot of hype to Onam, with good reason. So we gave it a thought and here’s probably why we can’t keep ourselves from making a huge deal of it!
The thought of this gastronomic spread on a plaintain leaf with upto 30 dishes (including good old sambhar, rasam, thoran, avial, kaalan, kichadi, pachadi, upperi, pappadam) and upto three or four paayasams (paalada, adapradhaman ,parippu, sharkkara )is a feast looked forward to the entire year!
Few would take the effort to cook at home, which in itself a celebration in the kitchen where everyone wants to pitch in and do their bit and probably hum an age old Onappattu. Others prefer to have a Sadhya at a restaurant with dear and near ones and there are a number of tasty options.
It is the time when Kerala relives its culture and brings alive its traditions through its dances and games such as Thriuvathirakali, Kaikottikali, Pulikali, Kummattikali
The concept of giving “Onappudava” or new clothing to the family members is reverently followed and this has encouraged shops to give humungous discounts on textiles and garments. They make sure to market this festival well and the offers are not limited to dresses but also apply to automobiles, gadgets, home appliances, even property as Onam removes all budget constraints and we spend with zero guilt.
Whether you are in school or college-goer, or work in an office, holidays are most welcome. Spending time with family or going on a vacation to an exotic location or just taking a relaxing break is much –needed and what’s a better time than Onam when God’s Own Country is at its greenest and happiest.
The best Malayalam movies make their entry to the theater screens during Onam. It is like an Onasammaanam from Mollywood. Both Lalettan and Mammookka are sure not to disappoint their fans during Onam. And if you want to just sit at home in front of yourTV screens, all the new films make their television premiers as well. So grab a bowl of Upperi and watch your fav films.
Starting from Pookalam contests and Vadamvali competitions to the Onasadhya and Pulikkali arranged, Onam is a total blast in schools, colleges, and work places. The thrill of wearing traditional Kerala attire on this day makes it more celebratory. Family meets galore and Malayali associations across the world come together with cultural events like Vallomkali, Thiruvaathira, Potluck, Sadhyas, etc.
The traditional Kerala attire in white and golden is extravagant and elegant. Be it a set mundu or set saree, every woman looks exquisite in this attire. Styling it in a unique fashion with the right blouse and personalising the saree with embroidery or paintings is a part of changing trends. And every Malayali guy looks dashing in a mundu and sometimes the white fabric is replaced by black or kaavi!
These local shops pop up every time Onam is around the corner, and they sell everything that is Onam related – Flowers, fresh vegetables, Handloom garments, Set Sarees, Mundu etc. They essentially will have a paayasam stall and upperi vendor.
The quintessential sweet ending that every Malayali looks forward to at the end of the grand Onam feast!
This cultural extravaganza is a reason for families to come together. Parents and grandparents are reunited with children and grandchildren and it is a time to reunite as one big happy family again!
