Bibliophiles, rejoice! The Krithi International Book Fair and International Festival of Books and Authors 2018, organised by Sahithya Pravarthaka Cooperative Society (SPCS) will be held in Kochi for the first time, from March 1 to 11. An initiative by the Kerala government, it is a platform that brings together writers and lovers of literature.
The unsurpassed exponent of Malayalam literature, M T Vasudevan Nair lends his leadership as Festival Patron to the event. The 11-day literature gala is divided into two parts – the International Book Fair, held on all days at Marine Drive; and the International Festival of Books and Authors, from March 6 – 10 at Bolgatty Palace. The Book Fair will exhibit stalls from various state, national, and international publishing houses. On the other hand, the Festival of Books and Authors will host an illustrious list of prominent speakers such as Shashi Tharoor, Kiran Nagarkar, Perumal Murugan, etc. from India; and international writers such as ZP Dala, Ewoud Kieft, Vlasimir Pistalo, etc.
The Festival will include myriad events such as workshops, talks, seminars, etc. Subjects such as India Since 1990, Idea of Equality, Kerala in History, etc. will be discussed extensively.
The literary celebration also includes Krithi Art Fest and a Food Fest on each day. The rich cultural heritage of Kerala such as its indigenous dance forms like Kathakali, Nangiarkoothu, Mohiniattam, etc will be showcased in the Art Fest; while the Food Fest will offer a spread of some of the best traditional cuisines.
