]]>As the movie Sanju becomes the fourth highest grosser of all time, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has shared his thoughts about making biopics about reel heroes. Akshay commented that he does not want a biopic of himself and believes it will be a shallow thing to do. He also commented that he would not write a book about himself. Sanju – a biopic of the actor Sanjay Dutt – has gained much praise among the audience, while it had its fair share of critics complaining about how the movie was all about praising the actor and making him look like a brave hero.
When asked about if the film industry is going overboard with creating biopics, Akshay commented, “It’s a known factor in the film industry, that if something works, everyone will go after it and if it fails they will go after something else.” While there are biopics about true heroes who faded into mere memories and were on the verge of being forgotten for good, there are biopics that were made and being made for no particular reason, but just to gave an uplift to the individual’s image. “I want to make biopics of real heroes and not reel heroes,” said Akshay.

Mahanati moves you emotionally in many areas and the rise and downfall of Telugu cinema’s most famous actress have been shown in a very effective manner. As the film is of the biopic genre, there is a lot of drama and things get narrated in a slow pace and this might not go well with certain section of the audience who do not know much about Savitri.
Mahanati is an odd mix of ambitious ideas and trite imagery. There is the love song that has Dulquer Salmaan and Keerthy Suresh floating to the moon, there is the clever subtle effect of 1980s film quality for the “modern day” sections, that is inventive and interesting.
Director Nag Ashwin has done an amazing job with the biopic. He stays true to the genre and does not add any unnecessary elements to the film. Nag Ashwin manages to showcase the dark side of Savitri without hesitating a bit. This is where the film clicks and the biopic becomes appealing. The young director scores heavily as he showcases every aspect of Savitri’s life in an interesting manner without making it look like an art film. Mickey J Meyer’s music is quite pleasing as the songs sit nicely in the narrative. But his background score is even better as it gives a lot of depth to the film. Special credit should go to makeup department as they have done a stunning job in making Keerthy look exactly like Savitri. Samantha Akkineni and Vijay Devarkonda’s ’80s set up looks quite good as well.
Dulquer is an apt choice to play Gemini Ganesan. The star actor nicely gets into the film and the way he portrays his role with negative touch is quite good.
Samantha plays the role of a journalist and her scenes with Vijay Deverakonda have been executed quite well.
