]]>Leaving behind the hasty year behind, everyone is hoping for new beginnings and here is someone who has been climbing ladders, going places with her kitty full. Aishwarya Lekshmi was a new face and now we know her as the bubbly Rachel from her first movie to the brave Appu from Mayanadhi who stole our hearts. It’s been three years since she has set herself a place in the industry.
Three years back, she did her very first cover shoot with us and now from a versatile new comer she has established herself in the industry and is ready to make an impact in Mollywood as well as Tollywood after a short break. And here we are making our journey back along with hers.
2020 was a year of lots of hope and resolution but everything happened so sudden. It took time to accept & understand what was happening. Suddenly having to stop work and not meeting friends and have to sit at home took a toll on me but with time it became the new normal, she says.
Beginning the new year with an unplanned bash at Varkala with her friends, she doesn’t have any new year’s resolutions for this year other than planning to take care of her body and stay healthier.
Being clueless and getting guidance from the guru himself, she is in the dream project of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, it was an easy breezy audition I had, she says. Set to have new releases awaiting in 2021 including two Malayalam movies and a Tamil movie, the busy bee is running around completing her schedules.
Even though she struggled during the shoot due to the cold weather, it was amusing to work with Dhanush and a technically perfect crew of Karthick Subbaraj’s ‘Jagame Thandhiram’, lots of learning had happened she says.
The romantic duo of Mayanadhi is back with ‘Kanekane’ this year and it won’t be nothing like the latter. It’s an intense family drama with a touch of romance.
Doing a female character centric movie doing the title role has hold her for more responsibilities. In ‘Archana 31 Not Out’ we can see her in the title role. There was no pressure but had fun on the set and it would be a fun drama genre movie, she says. The movie poster was even ranked by film companion.
Apart from the projects, she also had words for scenarios currently happening around including cyber bullying. She says that the problem comes into light only when a major episode occurs but that’s not the case usually. It happens whenever you upload a pic, there will always be people who are ready to comment such things and sadly it’s a daily occurrence. It has hurt me in the beginning but now I just don’t care.
Even she has had bad experiences, not in the recent past, but when she was a kid. There is always someone who thinks that they can touch somebody else’s body without their permission. We never forget what has happened. These incidents with details of what has happened, it gets imprinted in your memory. The thing is that we grow out of it as time goes, she says when asked about the recent issue happened to an actress at a popular mall.
We have been pushing ourselves a lot, to meet societies standards of what is actually called success. All of us should calm a bit down. It’s okay if things happen in our time and not societies time. Only things that matter are how happy you are when you go to bed and what you can do to change what is actually troubling you at that point of time. If we can sort that bit, everything else will fall into place, is her new year’s note as she signs off.

Everybody has a question that they want to ask to their favourite celebrity and Instagram just made that dream become a reality with their newest feature ‘Ask Me A Question’. The new feature is a part of the long list of features that has been added Instagram stories. This feature helps you put up a story with a box that allows your followers to type and send questions or things they would like to say and you could respond to their questions directly as another Instagram story.
While many believed that the questions they asked would go as anonymous, but in fact in fact it is not true. This feature can be also called an updated version for the direct message option in Instagram, while the direct message is visible only to the sender and the receiver, this new update lets the whole world have a glimpse of how you react to certain questions and what kind of questions you receive, especially for the celebrities. Here are some of the reactions from the Mollywood celebrity world.
Well, it seems Aishwarya knows her stuff
The classic childhood dilemma and Kani had it too
Can you blame him for not knowing the answer? He was absent that day.
It was their lucky day, they got to see both baby Abish and baby Archana.
and she had proof
With this traffic, no wonder Rajisha chose teleportation
and that one question that has been asked too many times

Mayaanadhi which was released during Christmas time last year, outperformed the expectations, won the hearts of the audiences everywhere, and rose to success. The movie is now all geared up to be remade in Hindi.
The big announcement was made during the audio launch of Mohanlal’s upcoming movie Neerali. The event was attended by actor Tovino Thomas, Aashiq Abu and many more famous faces from Mollywood. The Bollywood remake of Mayaanadhi will be bankrolled by actor-director-producer Sachin Pilgaonkar along with Santosh Kuruvilla and Aashiq Abu. The rest of the crew is yet to be finalised.

Mayanaadhi, a movie which was perceived to be yet “another love story” upon its initial look and trailer, went much beyond the stereotypical romantic film. The film chose a unique story telling technique, alternating between genres (romance and thriller) and timelines (past, present and future), which in turn produced a mystical effect to the whole movie as suggested in the title. The movie with the protagonist on the run intensified love, passion and everything in between.
Mayaanadhi is a fine example of the brilliant craftsmanship by Aashiq Abu. His prudent direction and strong performances by the lead actors are the two main reasons, why the characters Maathan and Appu and the story itself stayed with the audiences for longer time.
The Hindi remake of the movie will be directed by Joe Rajan of the Love You Soniyo fame. And now we will have to wait and see whether the director and the remake will be able to recreate the same magic on the screen once again.
While the lead actors is yet to be finalized, all we can do is keep guessing who will be playing the lead characters of Maathan and Appu.
Who do you think is most suited from Bollywood to play the lead in the movie?

Do you remember the lanky school boy who is Mary’s friend in Premam? Though he made his appearance for a brief while in the film, his presence was noteworthy. Althaf Salim has grown from that skinny boy who no one knew, to don the director’s cap in the newly released film Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela. In an exclusive interview with FWD, he talks about his experience as a debutant director, and his journey into the industry.
Cinema has always been my passion. I had this story in mind since long and wanted to make a film out of it. The film is on the topic of cancer, and I conducted some research for it. George Kora, who has acted in this film as Mathew, and was also seen in Premam, is a friend of mine. I approached him to co-write the script. The story went through several processes of rewriting, and the final product is a result of the eighth attempt. There was a lot more comedy in the script initially, but then we felt that that would mitigate the seriousness of the subject, whereas we wanted to keep a balance of humour and earnestness.
It is a common notion among the general public that cancer is deadly disease which means an assured death. So there is a stigma associated with the illness where those suffering from it are looked at with pity and sympathy. In my researches, I found that the ailment is curable if detected at an early stage, and this is a fact that is still unknown largely. So I wanted to spread the message of timely medication and a change of attitude towards those detected with the affliction. Also, as the filmmaker in me prefers doing comedy films, I wanted the treatment to be in an amusing fashion, as against the morose handling that the subject is generally met with. So, I wanted to show that a sombre subject such as cancer can be shown in a lighter vein.
I narrated the plot of this film to the director Alphonse Puthren, who is a mutual friend of Nivin and me. He suggested that I relate the story to Nivin, and that’s when I approached him. This was at the time when Nivin was shooting for Bangalore Days. As soon as he heard the narrative, he said he wanted to produce the film. He was thus, a natural choice for the role as well.
Nivin never had any pressure on himself, and because of that, I was also stress-free. In any case, one can never afford to be bogged down by an actor’s star status. One has to give importance to the story itself. So that is the attitude I carry in my work.
I did not have any particular actor in mind for the character of Sheela Chacko while writing the story. I came across an interview of hers on TV, and that’s when it struck me that she could be a great choice. The character is a strong woman who is able to hold the entire family together in a crisis situation. As Shanthi ma’am has always been seen in melodramatic roles in the past, I thought this character would be great to break that image. When I told her the story, she did not have any second thoughts while accepting the role. Now the film is garnering great appreciation for her performance and I am glad I made the right choice while casting.
I came across a book by the same title by the author Chadramathi, which is a memoir of her days battling cancer. I thought that as my film also deals with the same subject, it would be an apt name. So I took permission from her to borrow the title. It is mentioned in the credits of the film.
It was a deliberate decision to not assist any director because I was afraid that I would be influenced by them and their methods in my work. Also, as assistant director, one has to do a lot of odd jobs and running around, which I am too lazy to do, so didn’t want to be the cause of failure in their projects!
I have learned movie making after watching a lot of films – I watch at least two movies every day. I watch all kinds of films; it’s what makes me happy the most. Movies have the capacity to transport you into another world.
I admire Jim Sheridan and Alexander Payne in Hollywood, and Sreenivasan in Malayalam films.
Alphonse told me that he had a role for me in the film Premam. It was not an offer but an order! I read the script and saw that anyway the character Jahangir had just a few lines, and as the crew was my friends, I went ahead and did it. That was my first time in acting. After that, I got to full-length role in Sakhavu. Now, I have signed a new project called Mandakini, directed by debutant Jenith Kachappilly.
I shot with Lal and Dileesh from the first day, first shot itself, which I see as a great fortune. Lal sir used to give his suggestions for certain takes. I could not spend much time with Dileeshettan as he had a small role in the film. Besides, he was busy with the shoot of Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum.
Nivin was the first to be cast. Though I didn’t have anyone in mind for the character of Chacko while thinking of the story; I was particular that Lal sir should play the character when I started writing the dialogues. His look in the film is different from how he is usually seen, as we made him wear cotton shirts in a tucked in manner. For the role of Chaachan, I wanted someone who would look realistic, as I didn’t want to use makeup. So I approached Antony Kochi. I asked him not to cut his hair for the look. The other actors – Sharafauddin, Krishna Shankar, and Siju Wilson are my friends, and I wanted to include them in some way in my film. Their roles in the film are also such that bring out their true talent. Aishwarya Lekshmi was chosen after auditioning for the role.
Justin and Mukesh are my friends. Being a debutant director, I thought it was best to approach people who know me and my interest in films, rather than explaining myself to others. Also, both are equally talented. Justin has kept the background music very minimal, which is in sync with the performances of the actors.
You can expect all kinds of films from me. As I lay emphasis on humour, it will be a recurring element in all my films, except if the subject does not demand it.
